This is the first of our new (hopefully!) weekly round-ups of interesting science articles, videos, podcasts, etc. We’ll try to give up to 10 decent links each week.
On the 14th of September 2015 the twin detectors of the Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory made the first direct observation of gravitational waves. Since then five other events have been observed. This is a visual representation of the first six gravitational waves seen so far.
It’s easy to criticise the flat-earthers. But how many of us do that without mentally refuting their ideas. It’s not always easy! And is a useful exercise in testing your own understanding.
Professor Stephen Hawking’s final theory on the origin of the universe, which he worked on in collaboration with Professor Thomas Hertog from KU Leuven, has been published.
Social context shapes science. Whereas students of science tend to think of science being a collection of facts. This great video has elements of the flatearthers and the multiverse, as listed above, while discussing what we can and can’t trust! We’ll follow this up with a post on the perils of believing people who say “Research shows that…”
Minute Physics posted the 4th chapter of their special relativity series.
And to keep on the special relativity theme, Science Asylum posted their video on the Twins Paradox.
